20KEEP EXCESS CABLEUNDER OR BEHINDTHE DASHBOARDOPTION 1OPTION 26. Installation GuidelinesStep 1.First, determine the proper location for your XM satellite radioantenna based on the following criteria for your specific vehicle:a. You must locate the satellite radio antenna on the top of theroof either in front of the rear window (option 1) or behind thewindshield (option 2). The satellite radio antenna will performbest if magnetically attached to a steel surface with anunobstructed view of the open sky and minimum of 3 to 6inches of metal surrounding the antenna.b. When routing the antenna cable along the windshield or rearwindow, tuck the antenna cable under the window seal tomaintain a professional looking installation and to avoidloose wires on the exterior of the vehicle which aresusceptible to damage. Follow the interior cable routingdiagramdepicted by dashed lines in the illustration abovewhere possible.Setting Up and Installing Your Kit
21e. For option 2 and front mounting locations, route the cablealong the door jam and into the vehicle as shown. Route thecable across the weather seal near the bottom of the door toreduce water leaks.c. Avoid kinking, crimping, twisting or chafing the cable. Usepre-existing wire channels when possible.d. For option 1 and rear mounting locations, route the cable intothe trunk as shown in the previous illustration. Always crossthe weather seal at the lowest part of the trunk to reduce waterleaks. From the trunk, route the cable into the passengercompartment through available wire channels and then alongthe floor under the door jam trim or under the carpet to thefront of the passenger compartment. Do not leave the cableloose in the passenger compartment where it is likely to bedamaged.Setting Up and Installing Your Kit
22Be sure to choose a location carefully by taking notice of howdoors and trunks open and close, as well as how seats movewhen they are adjusted so you can be certain there is ampleclearance provided for the cables.Step 2.Once you have plugged the powerand antenna jacks into the vehiclecradle, secure the cables with tapeor wire ties to allow for a cleanappearance. For example, securethe excess cable up under yourdash board, between the seat andthe console, or on the floor under aseat or floor mat. This will help toprevent the excess cable frominterfering with the everyday use ofyour vehicle, improve theappearance of the installation, andavoid any undesirable accidentaldamage to the cables that mightresult in loss of power or satellitesignal.Setting Up and Installing Your Kit
