12Desk or Table Installation1. The GH5810 base unit has built-in wall mount hanger holes. There is no bracket to assemble. Simply take the base unit out of the box.2. Plug the AC adaptor cord into the 9V DC-300mA input jack on the Base unit.3. Plug one end of the telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the Base unit.4. Plug the other end of the telephone cord into the telephone wall jack.5. Plug the AC adaptor into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.NOTE:Use only with the AC adaptor supplied with GH5810.Place the telephone and power cords where they will not create a triphazard,or where they could become chafed and create a fire or otherelectrical hazards. Wall Mounting1. If using a standard wall plate, this step is not necessary. Place the Desk/ Wallbracket on the wall and mark the location of the screws. Install the screws leaving3/16" extending out from the wall.  Use anchors to secure screws.2. To connect the Desk/Wall bracket in the wall mount position, simply align the bracketwith the slots on the base until it is securely in place.3. Insert the AC adaptor into the back of the unit.4. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the Base unit.5. Thread the adaptor cord and telephone line cord through the grooves in the back ofthe unit. The cord will exit from the bottom.DO NOT CONNECT THE AC ADAPTOR TO THE WALL POWER OUTLET YET.6. Plug the other end of the line cord into the wall jack.7. Mount the phone on the wallplate studs or on the screws as in step 1, and press until the unit locks in place.8. 14Handset Battery ChargingThe battery pack in the handset must be fully charged for about 10 hours before usingthe telephone.After connecting to AC power, leave the handset unused in the cradle for ten tofourteen hours. Later, it will take less time for the battery to recharge. The IN USE/CHARGE LED on the base will be lit when the handset is in the cradle.NOTE:a. When the battery gets low, the LCD will show “BATTERY LOW” indicator, and theunit will beep every 15 seconds.b. If the battery becomes low while you are on a call, you will be disconnected afterabout 3 minutes. Terminate the call quickly, and put the handset in the base torecharge the battery.The battery will hold its charge for several days out of the cradle, depending on use.To Replace Batteries1. Remove battery cover.2. Remove battery.3. Plug the cord of the battery pack into the handset and place the battery in thecase.4. Slide battery cover until it clicks in place. Charge 10 hours before first use.To maximize your battery’s life, we recommend that you periodically fully discharge thebattery, and then recharge it. To do this, unplug your phone line cord from the wallphone jack. Press the TALK button, and allow the handset to remain on for 10  hours. Reconnect the phone cord to the wall phone jack. Return the handset to the base andallow it to fully charge for 10 hours. If this process is completed monthly, it will reducethe memory buildup that occurs from frequent partial charging. 18Digital Security SystemYour GH5810 Cordless Telephone isequipped with a digital security codingsystem to protect your base unit from be-ing accessed by other cordless telephone.The code allows your base and handsetto recognize each other so that othercordless phones will not make calls onyour line.If the AC adaptor is disconnected or a lossof power occurs while the handset isaway from the base unit, the security codewill be lost and the phone will be inopera-ble. If this occurs, reconnect  the AC adap-tor and return the handset to the base unitso that the security code is reset.Whenthe handset is not in the base, only a hand-set having the identical security code andoperating on the same channel   can ac-cess the base and use your phone line.When the handset is in the base, no otherhandset, even those having the identicalsecurity code and operating on the samechannel can access the base and useyour phone line.Digital security coding will also eliminatethe “false” ringing associated with cordl-ess telephones not equipped with thisfeature.40 Channel AutoScanOperationYour cordless telephone has 40  operat-ing channels. The phone will automatically  TELEPHONE OPERATIONsearch and select the clearest channelwhen you press the CHANNEL button.Ifyou hear noise or other interferenceduring your conversation, you canmanually select a clearer channel bypressing and releasing the CH button onthe handset to switch to another sparechannel. Your call will not be interrupted.NOTE:You must be in usable range to changechannels. If you press the CH buttonwhen you are close to being out of range,you may lose the call. If this occurs, placethe handset back into the base for a fewseconds to reset the security code andthen make the call again.Receiver Volume ControlYour GH5810 allows you to adjust thehandset volume to a more comfortable lis-tening level  by pressing up (    )and down(    )keys.
Making a Call1. Lift the handset and press the TALKbutton to be connected to the phone line.The LCD display will show “TALK” andthe TALK timer will start. The IN USE/CHARGE LED on the base will light.2. After hearing a dial tone, dial the de-sired number. or you may predial the num-ber (without pressing the TALK button),then press the TALK button.3. If you misdial, simply press the TALK button, wait for a couple of seconds, andpress the TALK button again for a newdial tone.4. After your conversation is completed,press the TALK button once to discon-nect the line, or return the handset to thebase.Receiving a CallWhen the phone rings:1. IF THE HANDSET IS OUT OF THE CRADLE, press the TALK button.2. IF THE HANDSET IS IN THE CRADLE, liftthe handset. DO NOT press the TALKbutton, as you will be connected automat-ically.  TELEPHONE OPERATION (CONT.)Temporary Tone (     ):In Pulse dialing mode, you can access bankfacilities, telephone answering machines,etc., by simply pressing the TONE(‘   ’)keyto get into the tone mode and input therequired tone codes. It will reset automati-cally after you end your call.NOTE:If you experience difficulty with placing orreceiving calls, the  lost security code maybe the cause of the problem. When thisoccurs, the handset can no longer com-municate with its base. The loss of thecode can occur in any of the followingways: if the battery is drained and needsrech arging; the handset is out of range ofthe base unit; the AC adaptor is discon-nected or a power loss has occurred; oranthing that causes electrical interference,for example multiple cordless telephones,baby monitors, televisions, VCR’s etc.Reset the security code by placing thehandset on the base for 10 seconds. Ifthat does not work, make sure the ACadaptor is connected. If necessary, un-plug the AC adaptor from the powersource. Disconnect the battery for 5 sec-onds and then reconnect. Place the hand-set on the base and then replug the ACadaptor (see Troubleshooting).19

Press     or     buttons to select anOut of RangeIf you try to place a call when you are toofar away from the base, you will hearstatic. If this occurs, move closer to thebase.FlashYou can use your cordless telephone withspecial services such as Call Waiting orThree Way Calling (Special subscriptionfrom your local telephone company isrequired). During a telephone conversati-on, you may hear a tone or click, whichindicates that you are receiving anothercall. To speak to the second caller and putthe first caller on hold, press the FLASHbutton. Press the FLASH button again toreturn to the original call. You may alsopress the FLASH button to obtain a newdial tone.Page/Handset LocatorYou can send a page signal from the baseto the handset. Press the PAGE  button onthe base. The New Call LED on the antenna willflash until you review ALL your new calls.The Caller ID information (of up to 60 callers)will be stored in the order received.If the received call information is the sameas any of the new calls, the unit will dis-play the”RPT” icon to indicate a repeat call.If the unit receives more than 60 calls, theoldest Caller ID information will be erased.NOTE:If you answer your incoming call beforethe second ring, the unit will not display thecall information.Receiving Call Waiting Caller IDWhen you are on an existing phone call,your GH5810 will display incoming call wait-ing Caller ID information.1. Once your area code isprogrammed as above, your GH5810will record all 10 digits for every incoming call. 26If your GH5810 is not performing to your expectation, please try these simple steps.  TROUBLE SHOOTINGPROBLEM SUGGESTION  Caller’s voice is too low  Handset doesn’t ring  Can’t make outgoing calls  No dial toneCharge the handset for 10 hours before initialuse.Place the handset back into cradle for5 seconds .Make sure the handset is fully charged. The IN USE/CHARGE LED should lightwhen the handset is in the cradle.Make sure the Tone/Pulse mode is set to thecorrect  setting. If set to the Tone mode, try toswitch to Pulse mode . You may have pulsedialing service.Make sure the Ringer On/Off selection on thesoftware of the handset is set to the “ On”position.Rechargeable battery pack may be weak ornot fully charged. Charge the battery pack for4-5 hours.The handset may be too far away from thebase unit.Make sure the AC adaptor is plugged into thebase unit and wall outlet.Make sure the wall outlet is functioning.There may be too many telephones installed onthe same line. Contact your local telephonecompany to determine the maximum number ofextensions for your calling area.Place the handset back in cradle for5 seconds.Adjust  the receiver Volume Controlon the handset to higher level.Charge light won’t come onwhen handset is placed inthe base unit.Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged intothe base unit and wall outlet.Make sure the wall outlet is functioning.Make sure the handset is properly seated in thebase unit.Make sure the rechargeable battery packis properly placed in the handset.
