If a damaged ANTENNAcomes in contact with the skin, a minor burn may result.GMRS/Turn your FRS OFF when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere,unless it is a type especially qualified for such use (for example, Factory MutualApproved). Sparks in such areas could cause anGMRS/explosion or fire resulting in injury orDo not replace or charge batteries in a potentially explosive atmosphere. Contactsparking may occur while installing or removing batteries and cause an explosion.even death.Do not place your FRS in the area over an air bag or in the air bagdeploymentGMRS/area. Air bags inflate with great force. If a GMRS/FRS is placed in theair bag deployment area and the air bag inflates, the GMRS/FRS may be propelledwith great force and cause serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle.All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury such as burns ifconductive material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touches exposedterminals. The material may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) andbecome quite hot. Exercise care in handling any charged battery, particularlywhen placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other container with metal objects.Care and SafetyTo clean the unit, wipe with a soft cloth dampened with water. Don't usecleaners or solvents on the unit; they can harm the case and leak inside,causing permanent damage. Pull the BELT CLIP LATCH away from the unit.2. While pulling the BELT CLIP LATCH, push up on the BELT CLIPto remove it from the unit, as shown in Figure 1.1. Insert the BELT CLIP HOOKS into the matching slots, as shownin Figure 2.2. Slide the BELT CLIP DOWN. But when the GMRS/FRS is not being used, conserve battery power bypressing the POWER button to OFF. Remove the batteries if the unit willnot be used for a long period of time.4. Reinstall the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER and return the BELT2. Remove the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER from the BATTERYCOMPARTMENT. Press and release the button until the current channelnumber flashes on the LCD Screen.2. While the channel number is flashing:Press the UP button to move to a higher channel.Press the DOWN button to move to a lower channel.The channel changes from 1 to 22, or from 22 to 1.The GMRS/FRS has 22 available channels. To change channels:button to confirm the channel and TRANSMIT.3. Press the button to confirm the channel selection and shift toCTCSS SUB-CHANNEL SELECTION mode, or press the button toselect the desired channel and return to NORMAL mode, or press theMONITORPress the button for normal monitoring.Press and hold the button until it "beeps" for continuous monitoring.You can use the MONITOR feature to check for weaker signals in the currentchannel.1.2.MENU/LOCK Button (FUNCTION EDITING)Press and hold the button for 5 seconds to activate or deactivate theBUTTON LOCK mode. To confirm and shift to the next option, press the button.Changing the CTCSS SUB-CHANNELSThe FRS has 38 available CTCSS sub-channels. To changechannels:GMRS/1. Press the button twice, the CTCSS sub-channel 0 will flash on theLCD Screen.2. While the CTCSS sub-channel is flashing:The sub-channel changes from 0 to 38, or from 38 to 0.Press the UP button to move to a higher sub-channel.Press the DOWN button to move to a lower sub-channel.The FRS is capable of voice activated (VOX) transmission. In VOXmode, the radio will transmit a signal only when it is activated by yourvoice or other sound around you. VOX operation is not recommended ifGMRS/you plan to use your radio in a noisy or windy environment.NOTE: To save power, the unit will not turn ON the LCD Screen light when inthe VOX mode.15Operation14OperationNOTE: This FRS unit allows you to communicate with standard FRSmodels by using channels 1 through 14.GMRS/NOTE:and environment.This GMRS/FRS unit has a fixed power output (0.135W) from channel 1 thruchannel 22. The maximum transmission range will vary depending on terrainCHANNEL SCANCHANNEL SCAN performs searches for active signals in an endlessloop from 1 to 22.2. When an active signal (one of 22 channels) is detected, CHANNEL SCANpauses keeping the active signal broadcasted.3. Press the button to communicate through the active signal channeland CHANNEL SCAN is deactivated.5. Press the button to deactivate CHANNEL SCAN mode.4.
